Outdoor Newborn Session.jpg

Thank you so much for choosing Tomie Horton Photography! I'm thrilled at the opportunity to work with you. I just wanted to share some information to help you prepare for your experiences with me. I want to maximize every minute together and make sure that you both truly enjoy the experience (and the photos that will be captured!).

What you wear is one of the keys for a successful session. Clothing complements who you are as a family, speaks to the environment in which the session is taking place, and coordinates with the home where final images will be displayed. Your style should be as unique as your family, so I’ve put together some clothing advice for a creative, comfortable session.

Plan your outfits completely a few days before your session. Here are some general rules of the road for making picture-perfect wardrobe decisions:

For parents, coordinated, but not matchy outfits. With your sweet little baby being the focus of the session, neutral colors tend to work best.

For Mom's, a beautiful maxi dress or a pretty cotton gown that will be both comfortable and oh-so-sweet while you are cuddling with your new baby.

clothes that flatter your body type and coordinate well with the rest of the group

layered clothing

logos and bold patterns

Tight fitted clothing that you aren't comfortable

I'll gladly retouch boo-boos, scars, and blemishes if required so no stress!

Do not schedule vaccinations the day before your session.

Shots make babies cranky and are stressful for parents too.

(On location sessions only)
Map it on your phone so that you can plan your commute accordingly. Plan to arrive to the location 5 minutes before your start time to allow for any last minute wardrobe, make up or hair fixed.

Pack your personal items that you want to incorporate into your photography. I highly recommend to bring a BLANKET for your family to sit on as well as A CUTE WRAP for your newborn in case it gets cold.

I also want your session to scream YOU, so if that means bringing your four legged friend along or props that tell your story, please do! We can incorporate them into your photos in a fun way! Maybe it’s a hobby you family/children love and share, maybe it’s books you love read to your children, blanket that you would like to sit on. Whatever you want in your photos, I’ll do my best to make it happen!

Get plenty of rest the night before. A well rested client is going to feel much more relaxed and look their best.

Place your clothing (Jackets, coats etc) on hangers, not in a bag. This will keep all outfits wrinkle free. Also bring a brush and extra make up for touch ups.

Prior to our session, try and keep the baby awake and stimulated as much as possible. You can give baby a bath, play for awhile, and try to feed him/her about the time I am due to arrive. A full belly makes for a sleepy baby!

After the baby is full, make sure they are burped really well. Gas can take a sleepy, happy baby to an uncomfortable and irritable one in seconds.

Leave all of your belongings in your vehicle beside your personal items thatyou want to incorporate into your photography.

We must maintain a 2 meter (6 feet) distance between you and me the whole time.

Be patient. If the baby gets fussy or alert, don’t worry. We’ll take breaks as much as we need or we’ll work with what they’re giving us. Sometimes the best pictures are ones when baby isn’t necessarily doing what we want.

And MOST importantly, the only job you have while we are together is to RELAX. I want this to be a time where you can soak in that new baby smell, cuddle with your loved ones, and be "in the moment".
